It’s always fun to watch, people caught up in extraordinary circumstances behaving like simpletons. Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi Review: Comedy of errors is one of the oldest tricks in the filmmaking business. Gangsters who’ve come to kidnap Happy and her husband, pick up the wrong Happy, while Guddu and his wife Happy are escorted to a university to deliver a lecture. Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi Story: Horticulture professor Happy (Sonakshi Sinha) arrives in Shanghai and the other Happy (Diana Penty) along with husband Guddu (Ali Fazal) also lands up in the Chinese city at the same time. But overall, the impact doesn't waver and that's what counts in the long run. The second half lags a bit but only because the director is trying to tie all the strands together. The film has a cracking first half which just zooms by. And Aparshakti's cameo is whistle-worthy. Diana Penty and Ali Fazal look like a much-in-love couple on vacation.
Jimmy dancing to Yaara o yaara wearing a Superman costume is easily the most riotous scene of the film. Piyush Mishra is reliable as ever and so is Jimmy Sheirgill, who is the surprise package of the film, really. Punjabi star Jassi Gill too is a natural and his deadpan delivery is just right. Sonakshi Sinha takes to comedy like fish to water and doesn't put a foot wrong. Thankfully, the ensemble cast raises the film a notch higher by their combined histrionics.

The best writing in the world can't save a movie if the acting isn't on par. Piyush Mishra too has a hilarious sequence where he makes a fool of himself in the red light district. Jassi Gill's character is shown to babble out-of-context thoughts while under stress. His sidekick Chang (Jason Tham) is a bumbling goon who messes up things and regularly earns the ire of his boss. His introduction scene has him reciting Ghalib to a paid crowd made up of Chinese people wearing Pathani dress. He has created a genuinely comic villain called Adnan Chow (Denzil Smith), a Chinese-Pakistani who is fond of reciting Urdu poetry and making kebabs and biryani.
It gives you the feel of a stoner film without anybody actually indulging in weed.įull marks to Mudassar Aziz for excelling on both the writing and direction fronts. The situations are uproariously funny and can even said to be borderline trippy but in a good way. Like something out of a Marx Brothers film, it offers a classic mix of slapstick combined with some hugely witty dialogue.
You can watch the film from anywhere and yet will not stop laughing. There have been cult comedies down the years like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro or Andaz Apna Apna to name a few and Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi looks all set to join the club.
The group has one set of crazy adventures after another across Shanghai and nearby towns, falling in and out of improbable situations and meeting outlandish characters on the way. Bagga and Usman land there as well to lend a helping hand. Sonakshi seeks help from Khushwant Singh (Jassi Gill), an Indian embassy employee who knows Chinese. Ali Fazal and Diana Penty too are in China for a music show, though the focus of the film isn't on them. In the present film, Sonakshi Sinha (also named Happy) comes to China to find her runaway groom (Aparshakti Khurana) and gets kidnapped by Chinese thugs, who mistake her for Diana Penty because of their similar names. The film revolved around the fact that Diana Penty ran off on her wedding night and somehow landed in Pakistan, leading to a merry chase across the border. The original starred Diana Penty as Happy, Ali Fazal as her boyfriend Guddu, Abhay Deol as the Pakistani politician Bilal, Jimmy Sheirgill as the Punjabi politician Bagga, who was Happy's would-be-husband, and Piyush Mishra as Usman. Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi is the sequel to Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016).
